Two large earthquakes which hit Türkiye, Syria and the surrounding region on 6 February have had a devastating impact. According to the World Health Organization, 23 million people are estimated to be affected. With homes and livelihoods destroyed and temperatures below zero, people are in need of urgent help and many more dependent on humanitarian aid.
We have launched an emergency appeal to provide support. UBS Optimus Foundation and Community Impact has teamed up with our existing partner organizations, the International Rescue Committee (IRC), in Türkiye and Syria and our local civil society partner AÇEV - Mother Child Education Foundation in Türkiye. We would like to offer our sincere thanks to AÇEV and their partners who have also agreed to match 100%* in donations made to UBS Optimus Foundation.
IRC’s response will include the provision of immediate cash, basic items such as household kits, dignity kits for women and girls and hygiene supplies. Through its partners, IRC will support essential health services in earthquake-affected areas and set up safe spaces for women and children.
AÇEV is a NGO based in Türkiye with a 30 year track record in the fields of early childhood, parenting and women’s empowerment. It has developed experience in disaster relief and rehabilitation through the many earthquakes and disasters that the country has suffered. The organization procures urgently needed items in the short term and works towards maintaining basic services, including healthcare, emergency nutritional support, and child welfare.
*Currently capped at USD 1 million, donations over this threshold will be matched at 20% subject to funds available.
No donation certificate will be issued by the UBS Optimus Foundation for donations of KeyClub points.
